Romantic Wildflower Wedding at the Farm on Van Wyck

November 25, 2022

Celia and Ben planned a stunning wildflower wedding at the Farm on Van Wyck this past July, surrounded by their loved ones and a variety of seasonally-inspired, organic + whimsical floral arrangements and installations. We were so grateful we got to be a part of this lovely day!

Celia & Ben’s Late Summer Wildflower Wedding

Florals inspired by organic movement & unique textures

The bride loved movement-rich cosmos and native queen Anne’s lace, so we incorporated plenty of both into both her bouquets & the floral arrangements that decorated the ceremony and reception spaces. We also used unique & textural grasses to give an overall wildflower-esque look to every piece, and, despite it being over 100 degree (yikes) I feel pretty confident saying this was one of our favorite 2022 weddings! From the native queen Anne’s lace dancing down the aisle to the all-white bridesmaids bouquets to compliment their floral gowns & Celia’s colorful wildflower bridal bouquet, every choice was intentional. We really approach our floral design as a work of art, so when we work with couples who appreciate that creativity + artistic eye and have a unique vision they want to bring to life, trust that we will make it happen.

Taking advantage of seasonality & vibrant summer blooms

As this was a late July wedding, summer flowers were really hitting their stride. We used a variety of seasonal blooms including dahlias, foxglove, queen Anne’s lace, yarrow, echinacea, cosmos, zinnias, phlox, scabiosa, and koko loko garden roses, mixed with an array of textural elements including flowering oregano, mugwort, bunny tail grasses, frosted explosion grass, and blueberry foliage for a touch of minimalist greenery. The summer season really shone through the colors and abundant summer flowers!

Seasonality played a big role in the floral pieces for this wedding; for example, the native queen Anne’s lace we incorporated into many of the designs are only available for a short time of the year. Being in a relationship with the beauty of each season is important as a florist who focuses on using local, sustainable blooms; we intentionally embrace the season and highlight botanical elements that are truly specific to that moment in time.

We also worked largely out of our cutting garden for this wedding. It is always so special to have truly had a relationship with almost every single stem in a person’s bouquet, from planting the seeds, to nurturing the plants as they grow, to eventually working with the blooms in a gorgeous design for a really meaningful moment in someone’s life. Anything that we didn’t grow was from some of our favorite local farms, including Free Range Flowers and Wildrye Farm.

A wildflower-filled wedding ceremony with spectacular views

We designed a variety of different floral pieces for every element of Celia and Ben’s special day: charming bud vases for tables at their reception, vibrant blooms on their rustic welcome sign, bouquets for the bridal party, and of course the stunning wildflower ceremony florals, including entrance florals to welcome guests in and dancing queen Anne’s lace to line the aisle. We love incorporating floral arrangements at the entrance to the ceremony aisle is a lovely way to gently invite guests into the present moment as they step into this space, and the queen Anne’s lace was designed to coexist seamlessly with the hayfield & grounded installation to surround and support the couple for their vow exchange. All of this plus the farm’s beautiful views made for a breathtaking day from start to finish!

Why We Love Weddings at The Farm on Van Wyck

The Farm on Van Wyck is an outdoor wedding venue in Bellingham that we love, set on nearly 80 acres of hay fields in the heart of Whatcom County farm land. It is an absolutely gorgeous venue for couples who are looking for a charming outdoor space to celebrate, whether you’d like to say your vows at the lush woodland ceremony site, under the deep green trees of Bellingham, or out in the sunny hay field on a warm summer day. You’ll have access to a whimsical reception space, which is shaded from the sun (super helpful for weddings that take place on hot summer days like Celia and Ben’s!). Every space offered by the venue makes for a magical experience, and the farm is made even better thanks to the lovely couple who runs the venue. Plus, the venue is only 2 miles from our farm, which makes the floral transportation process much easier!

This was a breathtaking wedding that we are so grateful to have been a part of. If you’d like to see more of the weddings we’ve recently worked on, please be sure to check out our blog, and learn more about Noctua Florals here!
