Lush, Elegant Late Fall Wedding at the Captain Whidbey Inn

November 25, 2022

Last Novemeber we created floral designs for Kate & Graham’s elegant late fall wedding, an event that celebrated all things local greenery + foliages along with plenty of organic & locally-grown flowers. These botanical treasures were a stunning complement to the natural landscape of Captain Whidbey Inn, a beautiful wedding venue on Whidbey Island. Despite a power outage, wind storm, no running water, the couple were great sports and the day turned out beautifully. Whatever the season when you are getting married, we love the opportunity to use these unique and interesting floral elements to speak to the time and place of your celebration- and we hope you love perusing these photos by Berty Mandagie Photography as much as we have been!

Kate & Graham’s Elegant Whidbey Island Wedding

A late fall celebration with a focus on greenery

As we move into the late fall season and the flowers begin to die back from the frost, greenery & foliages really are having their moment.  Every season is different, every moment in time is different, and that is actually what makes seasonally-specific flowers so beautiful – they represent a very unique moment in time that will never again be repeated in the same exact way. For this gorgeous wedding on Whidbey Island, these stunning and interesting floral\foliage elements included locally-grown Eucalyptus, Abelia, Elaeagnus, and Silver poplar paired with greenhouse grown cafe au lait dahlias, zinnias, stock, heirloom roses & more from some of our fav local growers (*link here please) Free Range Flowers, Floralie Flower Farm and Flower Feather Farm. Working with these seasonally-available ingredients allowed us to locate K + G’s wedding to this particular time and place, adding rich meaning and context to the overall feeling and resonance of their special day- a huge part of why using seasonality in our floral designs creates such one-of-a-kind magic for all of our couples!

Unique + Interesting Floral Elements that complemented the space

For Kate & Graham’s wedding, we set out to create floral designs that felt native to the space, and also like they added an additional layer of magic to the already gorgeous setting. We didn’t want to take away from the natural beauty and feel of the space that the Captain Whidbey Inn provides for weddings, but did seek to augment what was there, and set the scene for an unforgettable experience. To do this, we used a variety of locally-grown greenery, as well as neutral-toned blooms that echoed the colors naturally present in the surroundings. The designs we put together felt right at home on the island!

A lush ground installation, organic + textural bouquets, and handmade eucalyptus garlands

We designed a variety of pieces with soft candlelight for different parts of this celebration, starting with organic + textural bridal party arrangements filled with neutral fall tones. The ceremony featured a lush ground installation that surrounded Kate & Graham as they said their vows, creating a natural visual frame that left the beauty of the water and the stunning trees visible behind them. Their reception featured elegant, handmade, & locally-grown eucalyptus garlands with plenty of votive + pillar candles at varying heights that invited a soft glow (and much needed light with no power!) to the heated outdoor tent with lake views. It was such a treat to see it all come together- sending unending gratitude to the garden + all of our local growers for providing such beautiful flowers + foliages to surround these lovely people on this momentous day!
