Spring Wedding Flower Inspiration

Spring Wedding Flower Inspiration

APRIL 21, 2023

Spring flowers are definitely some of our very favorites, and it is always such a delight when we get to design with these magical botanical treasures for a spring wedding! We always seek to design in a way that reflects the time and place of a wedding, allowing the flowers to help celebrate + support the clients we are working with. Spring is truly a time of fleeting beauty and ethereal abundance (rain one second and sunshine the next!) rebirth, renewal….. and the flowers for this season really reflect this significance and context. Choosing to work with seasonal blooms adds deeply to the overall feeling and connection these floral gifts offer to your wedding day!

There are SO many truly special blooms growing in the spring season- hellebore, blooming branches (cherry + plum blossoms, spirea), daffodils, tulips, alliums, frittilaria, leucojum… The list goes on. I find these blooms to really be some of the most whimsical + unique, with an incredible array of color palettes. Below are a collection of some of our favorite spring designs, we hope you enjoy!

HELLEBORES! the very best of early spring flowers

We love hellebores  (like, a lot). From dusty mauve tones, speckled + ruffly, deep moody plums, to classy + elegant whites this flower really dances and delights in it’s very own special magic. Whether designed into a wedding centerpiece or bridal bouquet, woven into a floral installation to create an impact, or delicately floating in a ceramic bowl, these beauties are sure to bring alchemy and enchantment into your wedding.

They start blooming in late February, flowering into April and offering some much needed light and color into the garden through the dark days of later winter + early spring. We have a large collection of hellebore in our cutting garden here in Bellingham, a few of our favorite varieties include “Sandy Shores” “Confetti Cake” and “French Kiss”.

Daffodils for an initimate seattle wedding

Every year flower breeders come out with more and more impossibly unbelievable varieties of daffodils, also known as speciality narcissus. The color palettes range from pure white, buttercream, pale and vibrant oranges- and the shapes are just out of this world! We were fortunate enough to get to design some of the arrangements below for some intimate Seattle weddings this spring, and we are in love with the whimsical movement and soft ruffles of these treasures.

Not only are they incredible for a spring wedding, daffodils are an easy and delightful addition to any garden. The deer usually leave them alone, they can handle a wide range of soils, they propagate into more and more bulbs over the years, and they bring color and life to the early spring landscape. Our current favorites are “Apricot Whirl” “Sweet Paradise” and “Silver Chimes”. If you are interested in adding some of these beauties to your own garden, check out Van Engelen for some of the very best selection!

Frittilaria + tulips at Christianson's nursery

This spring wedding at Christianson’s Nursery in the Skagit Valley is forever one of our very favorites, and perfectly captured a true celebration of the bounty + beauty of the spring season. The magic of spring flowering bulbs and my love affair with these jewels of the season is what inspired this shoot, and the colors and movement of the frittilaria and tulips are what really brought this rich color palette to life.

Fritillaria are a family of spring flowering bulbs that range from the delicate and graceful meleagris, movement-rich uva-vulpis, to the dramatic and bold persica varieties. Each has its own unique personality, shape and rich colors.

Tulips come in just about very color you can imagine, but “La Belle Epoque” is hands down our very favorite and was an integral part of these designs. It has luxurious double flowers in soft dusty mauve\pink shades, and is an exceptional beauty.

Thank you to Anna Peters  for these very special images!
