30 Sep Fine Art Bold & Moody Fall Wedding Floral Inspiration
September 30, 2022
An intimate backyard wedding, fall colors, a stunning bride, and a simple yet oh-so-elegant gown – a combination that will never fail to make my heart leap! This bold, autumn-themed styled shoot brought to life one of my favorite color palettes to date and effortlessly exemplified why we absolutely love fall wedding florals. The result was lush, organic, one-of-a-kind floral arrangements that were truly a joy to create, all from our cutting garden and fellow local Whatcom County farm Triple Wren. I can promise you once you’ve witnessed the dusty pink, mauve, & burgundy-highlighted beauty of this moody fall wedding bouquet that you will be well on your way to planning your own backyard fall wedding – enjoy!
A backyard wedding in Bellingham, brimming with fall textures & tones
The unmatched bold colors of fall in the Pacific Northwest
The changing, bold colors of fall in the Pacific Northwest are always just absolutely incredible! As the foliage that lines the streets of Bellingham transitions from the vibrant greens of summer & spring to the deep yellows & reds of fall, so must the tones of the florals we design for weddings. The color palette for this moody bridal bouquet, infused with dusty pink, stunning mauves, and accented by rich burgundies, beautifully reflected the bold fall colors of the landscape surrounding this intimate wedding. This palette provided a striking yet seamless juxtaposition to the bride’s simple yet elegant gown, and at the same time so perfectly showcased the natural movement and rich tones of the foliage brought to life by the changing seasons.
Dahlias: the crown jewel of fall wedding florals
The dahlias really shine all through the month of September, and we chose to design this bouquet around the breathtakingly beautiful colors of the dahlia “Bracken Rose.” She is an elusive dahlia tuber to find, and this last year we were able to add them to our cutting garden for the first time. They pair effortlessly with “Koko Loko” roses, another Noctua Florals cutting garden favorite with her stunning mauve tones, along with some interesting textural notes including Sanguisorba, Smokebush, Fall Blueberry foliage, and ornamental grasses.
A fusion of effortless minimalism & striking textures
With this bold floral bouquet we wanted to highlight the potential that minimalist design truly has once fall comes around. Fall is full of textural botanic elements like grasses, berries, fall-toned branches, and seed pods, and fall flowers in particular reflect the beauty of local blooms and the ever-changing seasons. For this bouquet, we chose to incorporate minimal-to-no greenery and simply let the rich tones of the dahlias shine through, with a few simple fall-toned pieces added into the mix to create variety and texture. The minimalist yet bold design of these florals paired with the effortless elegance of the bridal gown created a perfect blend of deep, vibrant tones, eye-catching textures, and beautiful simplicity.
